Simplicity 8392 Cropped Hoodie

Hey y’all! I hope everyone had a great summer. While it is technically fall, here in Texas, we still have highs of 90 degrees in October.

Since I didn’t post all summer, I’ll be updating my blog with items I made this summer as my schedule permits.

Let’s get started.

When I first saw the pattern for a cropped hoodie, I thought, who would wear half of a jacket? Does it keep half of your body warm and the rest cold? Well, the answer to that question is yes and yes.

M7566 Ankara Print Maxi Dress

Hey Y’all! I know its been awhile since a did a blog post. I have been super busy! I have at least 4 pieces finished that I have been wearing and have not photographed. Yikes!

So, I have taken on the task of becoming a better dress maker. Sewing dresses for myself is not one of my sewing super powers. Continue reading M7566 Ankara Print Maxi Dress

M7505 Bell Sleeve Dress

2017 is the year of the sleeves. This is a trend that I don’t see ending for awhile. I might have one or two more sleeve projects to complete before I am done with them.

I picked up this pattern last fall from Joann, a Nicole Miller pattern, M7505. It is described as a semi-fitted dress at the bust. M7505_aI picked up some denim chambray fabric and immediately cut out the pattern. Then I put it down until last week.  Continue reading M7505 Bell Sleeve Dress

M7100 Bomber Jacket

I think I may have developed an obsession with jackets. Bomber jackets to be exact.

The start of my obsession. M7100

I made a floral bomber jacket last year during the McCall’s Blog sewalong, (My jacket made the photo collage on their page) using M7100. This is such a great jacket.  The design elements are endless. The first one was made from a stretch floral sateen and black satin that I had purchased from JoAnn.

I loved it so much that I made plans to make 4 more. While I love making jackets, let’s be realistic, do I really need 4 bomber jackets? Yes, I do!  Continue reading M7100 Bomber Jacket

Orange Peplum Jacket

I really wanted an orange jacket.

Before I get into the details of my new orange jacket, because this is my first sewing post, let me tell you about my sewing background.

I am a 3rd generation seamstress. My maternal grandmother and my mother both sew. My grandmother took up sewing because she had 12 kids and wanted them to look nice and it was more economical. My mother took up sewing because she didn’t like the clothes her mom made. I sew because I like to work with my hands and I like to create interesting pieces. I loved the clothes my mom made for me. If I ask her nicely, she will sew for me right now.

So, I took one semester of Home Economics Sewing and continued to work with my mom to become a better seamstress. I stopped and started on and off, picking up other hobbies but I would always return to sewing.

After the birth of my daughter, I started sewing again and here I am.

Now, here are the details on my jacket.

McCall’s M7513 is described as a fitted, lined jacket with back princess seams, with length and peplum options.
